Below is a link to an online manual which might be of some help. Your 540 would be the Continental F400 engine regardless of it's displacement ..... 124, 140, or 162 cubic inches. I suspect the Cockshutts were maybe the 162 version (not that it matters to your question). Once you open up the link, you can move through the pages with the > or < arrows to the side of the screen. You can make a page appear larger by simply lift-clicking on it and it will magnify. The externals in this manual (eg carburetor) will probably be different than yours. The top left diagram on page 66 shows two locating dowels for linkng up the covor, one is at about the 2 o-clock position and the other at about 7 0-clock relative to the big timing gear. There is not a good picture of how many bolts or studs there are. Somehow I doubt there is a bolt, stud, or dowel from the bottom.
