County seat of about 5000 population 5 miles away from us. I'll start on Main Street. Chrysler, Dodge, DeSoto, Plymouth dealer was also a Massey Harris dealer as well as Dodge trucks of all sizes. Some farmers bought their entire line of equipment from him including cars and trucks. He gave pretty good deals and was a bootleg Cadillac dealer. A real wheeler & dealer. Across the street was J.I. Case. A nasty old coot but he had a following of even nastier old coots. Moving north and slightly off Main street was John Deere which included a blacksmith shop. Going west about a block off Main street was Ford tractor and Dearborn implements that also sold the full line of New Holland equipment. Going further west but still in town was Minneapolis Moline which was also the Nash dealership. On the east end of town was Allis Chalmers and just down the street from them was International Harvester. Oliver was in the next town about 7 miles away from us and included another International Harvester dealer. All of these dealerships were right in town within walking distance from the Main Courthouse Square. All of those buildings have now been converted into restaurants, stores and shops. The only farm equipment dealer is New Holland on the outskirts of town. They also sell Massey Ferguson and Kioti. It's part of a 5 dealer company that I do a good bit of business with but no tractors from them. I'm surrounded by a 14 location John Deere dealership but the closest one to me is about 22 miles.
