They surely are pricy these days. Dont know how anyone could pay for one...I bought a brand new JD 4040 in 1980. had all the 'bells and whistles....It cost 'just' $30,000.Lost it in '84. Replaced it with a 'rag' of an IH 856 that cost 3900.00.It did all the work(and more) on half the fuel.It just wasnt as nice to drive.If I were you,I would look for a good low houred used tractor that meets your needs. The 'older' the better. Less electronic(computer) and emission bu!!$#:t. And you wont have to mortgage the farm to pay for it.
