I've found that yews are pretty resilient, if that's what you have. Mature bushes will fare much better than little ones.
At my place the deer have stripped the bark off of two of the smaller Norway Spruce I planted a few years ago. They are probably done for. I've seen them inspecting the bigger trees so I bought a bag of deer corn which was pretty cheap at around $8 for fifty pounds. I spread it around the trees and they've started eating that. Then the wild turkeys got wind of it and came in to clean up what the deer left.
Might want to get some shelled corn if you don't already have some around. Fifty pounds goes a long way even with the other critters eating it and is cheap insurance.
