Hey there Rich, hope alls well down your way, you posted So tomorrow I am doing something I have not done to a running tractor in a long time. I am putting in new points.
Unfortunately I cant say the same,,,,,,,,,,,,grrrrrrrrrrrr lol,,,,,,,,,when I was a used tractor dealer and farming with a lot of different used tractors I HAD TO REPLACE A TON OF POINTS...............
Of course I FIRST checked the gap and cleaned/buffed/polished/filed etc using a points file if and as needed (which often cured the problem) but if they were badly burned and pitted I simply replaced them. The cheaper ones sold at big box stores were not as good quality as those I purchased say at NAPA or tractor dealers
As long as the condensors tested okay I left them in place as they were better then many new replacements
Soooooooooo having to change out points if they were so badly burned or pitted was something Ive done often IF THEY WERE BEYOND REPAIR AND CLEANING UP
