George I place them as high as my man lift will reach, (about 40 ft) on the east side of trees , and usually one with easy access , like out at the edge of the yard. Was not a believer until my neighbor got me a house and since then I have built 3 more. We had the kids in for the 4th and they shot a bunch of fireworks. I was really worried that it might affect the bats but I just came in from sitting out on the porch and they are batting like heck.
