Slugs melt when hit with salt. Pictured is what appears to be Banana slugs. Their diet is more along the line of dead vegetation versus the European slug that was intentionally imported from Europe as was the dandelion weed. European slugs being a solid brown or a darker orange in color and they like to feast on your fresh garden produce. Then we can get into Leopard slugs which as the Banana slugs are on the endangered list somewhere. On another note, Banana slugs will skirt around a dog's mess. The European slugs will eat it. Then the Garter snakes will eat the slugs. Then the birds eat the snakes and life goes on. Welcome to the great outdoors. Funnier is when the chipmunk squirrel attacks the bunny rabbit for invading it's territory. Scratch one rabbit. Which can also feed the birds. Or the coyotes, which can be scared off if you go outside and LOUDLY growl like Sasquatch.
