I took a drive over to Ridgeland, WI this morning to look at a set of tires. Had to go through Somerset so on my way back I stopped there. Between findagrave.com and google maps I was able to pinpoint the exact location of my great, great grandfather Francois' grave. His original stone still stands but they have added a second monument to him that is easier to read. Francois moved to Somerset while he was young and married. His wife gave him 12 children. Then she died so he remarried and his second wife gave him 13 more children. Yes. From one man came 25 children. Sommerset was a big French Catholic community then. Still is in some ways. And you know what they say about those Catholics - that wherever 4 Catholics are gathered you'll usually find a Fifth. I figured he might be a bit thirsty so I brought a tiny bottle of brandy with me and took a sip myself. Then poured the rest in the grass for him to enjoy. I hope you enjoyed the sip grandpa. Your decensents are a huge multitude and we still think of you.
