Years ago on my 750 Massey one night I thought I smelled smoke. Jumped out of that thing grabbing my extinguisher on the way down the ladder. Made a quick lap around machine. Nothing. Flipped open engine hood but without flashlight I could see nothing but thought the smell was stronger. Got poking around in engine compartment and finally saw a red glow in the dark. It was some chaff smoldering but no flame. Poked it apart and poured my coffee thermos on it. I was sure I had it out but when I quit for night I drove it 4 miles home and turned the water hose on the whole machine. No damage at all. I got lucky. That Massey was bad for getting chaff in the engine. The CaseIH I have now stays spotless in engine.
