Did it have Zero dash lights and zero key to start, or did it have dash lights, then nothing when turned to start? If it happened when the starter was making effort (key to start) the starter could be shorted internally, or the cable touching ground. If it happened over night it is likely the short to ground of the cable. I think that the clamp is bogus and possibly contributed to the melt. Using a 125watt electric soldering iron the post can be rebuilt. and filed down. If it actually tried to crank, the clamp is at fault. Soldered on real clamps can be purchased. Jim
