Depends on what you consider to be value.
If this is a working tractor, and it's not reliable, it is of little value to you as is.
If it is a show tractor, and you want to keep it original, by all means do.
But unless it is museum quality, they don't hold a lot of monetary value. Pretty common, not a real collectors item.
The problem with keeping a generator system working is the quality of the aftermarket regulators. Back in the day, the regulator was closely matched with the generator, and had high quality alloys in the contacts. Not any more, they are fit-alls, built as economically as possible.
Keeping it 6 volt can be done, but everything has to be right. The biggest mistake is putting automotive cables on it. They will be too small. It takes size 0 to work properly. And everything else has to be right, a healthy engine, fresh starter, a well tuned ignition system, and a properly functioning carb and clean fuel system.
