The VGA standard is analog and pretty much obsolete. I'm a bit surprised you can get an adapter as cheap as the one Royse pointed out, but understand that an adapter has to take the digital video signal and convert it to an analog signal your monitor can handle. If your monitor is VGA-only, it's quite old and overdue for replacement. New monitors are quite cheap these days, and I'd really recommend replacing your old monitor. But first check to see if your monitor has some sort of digital interface. It might be DVI or HDMI; both of these are digital standards that are easily adapted to DisplayPort. Note that both DVI and HDMI have multiple connector standards, so make sure the adapter you get is the right one for your monitor.
