That sure was a year to remember, or forget! I don't remember when we planted. But I remember building my shop that summer, and how cool it was. I cut white wheat in the drizzle, fog, mud, and picked some of it up off the ground. It didn't sprout! I had about 18 acres of canola, which Agway had promoted. We moved to this farm into a new house on Thanksgiving. I started corn harvest the next day. Corn was OK, but still about 29%. I was trucking for a local mill at the time. Movement of corn meal, cracked corn, and whole corn, wet or dry went nuts as dairy farmers found standing crap in the fields. I was combining Sun morning Dec 6 when I got word Dad had died. He had started way before me, but he still had corn in the field. The rear end, and transmission went out of my big truck and our car was on its last legs. I wasn't sure we would make it to the funeral!
