I wouldn't know a 2015 Silverado if it bit me, but on my Fords, I know that there are two metal pipes that go from the filler spout to the gas tank. They each have a clamp on the gas tank to seal them to the filler pipes. I wonder if one of them might be loose. I think that would allow fumes to leak from the tank but no liquid leakage. Of course the vapor recovery system is designed to handle fumes, but maybe if the leak of fumes is small enough it wouldn't set a check engine indication.
