Steve, I just went through exactly what your going through. We just bought 24 acres, (7 pasture), need to make a lagoon, etc. I started out at $3000 also. I looked for 2 months before I found something decent and spent $7300. The biggest problem your facing is that to dig your going to need a loader and they cost around $3000 by themselves. Then you need a brush cutter, blade, plow, etc. I don't think your going to find what you need for $3000. I bought a Ford 3000 which had 2000 hours on it and a loader. Everyone around here told me that a Ford 3000 or 4000 was a really good tractor and easy to resell if you ever wanted to upgrade. I think they're right because a good used one was hard to find. If you do look for one, be sure it doesn't have select-o-speed transmission. I've heard they're trouble and hard to get parts for. Best of luck to you. I know what your up against. Bob
