Some JD engines can be turned at the flywheel after removing a cover and using the ring gear teeth, turn the cover stud/bolt around and install it in the threaded hole. The stud end will drop in a spot drilled flywheel hole for TDC. Set the pump timing BEFORE removing pump, DO NOT turn engine with pump removed. The pump holds the drive shaft centered, and gear/shaft MIGHT jump time if engine is turned without pump in place.
