The V8 (DV550) used in the 1468/1568 two wheel drive tractors didn't have much (any) more HP than the I6 IH diesel engines and burned a lot more fuel, but they made up for it by not being as reliable. The V8 used in the 68/86 4X4 tractors was a monster (DTV800) 798 cubic inches of power. We had a 4568 growing up and that thing was pulling horse - the only issue we had was keeping a starter in it until the local dealership realized they sold us the wrong starter three times in a row at nearly $700 each - in 1980 dollars. That tractor was only started when it was going to go to work - otherwise it sat. I believe it was sold with only about 5000 hours on it.
