There are no 9/1030 case tractors with com. The com came in the 800 then 7/830 models. The 7/830 can also have a dry clutch. When you push the peddle it shifts to com not direct and you always start in com. They are very similar to an auto trany in a car or pickup only with manual shift. There is no actual speed or Geer change, only the torque converter being locked or unlocked. In direct they pull like any regular clutch tractor and in com the converter allows slip so speed matches load to power. The pto is independent and live and not affected by the drive system.
