If the generator turns when voltage is applied to either wire it must be an A type generator. The field is the one that turns it slower, and opposite. The Make sure test is to motor the generator in the fast direction as you did, but then ground the other wire. If it slows but does not stop, the grounded wire is the field, and the other is the Armature. If it were a B type the field would not motor the generator with voltage applied. The voltage regulator on the one you have must be well grounded. The field wire is grounded to make it charge. Jim
