Neither spreader is made anymore. Neither company make box spreaders anymore.
As far as parts on your 540 what parts can you possibly need? The only real wear items on it are all standard things you can get at Tractor Supply, except the apron chain, but you can get that from third-party sources.
Really the only reason to upgrade to the New Idea is if the 540's frame and box are on the verge of rotting out and the New Idea is in better enough shape to justify the price.
I would not worry much about the top beater. There's a reason they don't sell box spreaders with top beaters anymore. What that is I don't know but they're clearly not necessary.
