Rrlund has it just right. I recall my grandfather making the same rant in the late 1950s (and probably earlier but I was too young to care or recall). All industries are in the same situation - my sister has worked for American Airline for 40 years and everything from fuel to uniforms has gone up exponentially. How about your food bill?
To a point it is all relative. When we start to need a wheel barrow to carry cash to buy bread it will have gone too far, as it has in the past, and there will be painful adjustments coming.
But all in all our incomes have risen right along. We may get a moment of sticker shock but the reality is we are buying and paying and the world is rotating as it always has.
