The Edsel's failure was its size, it was just too big of a car for what people were wanting. If it was the size of the Falcon that came out the next year or the Fairlane that came out in 62 then I think the brand would have lived. We had a 59 Merck for a while and it was just so big I could put a complete front axle with wheels on in the trunk. Too big for most garages at that time. The year after it ended the Corvair and the Valiant came out and all sold very good as they were small enough for people to handle and were about the same size as the 53 Full size Ford that is all they made at that time. It I don't think it was the design that caused its failure as some complained calling it ugly. If it had come out as the size of the 53 Ford or Mercery I think it would have sold good.

Although he himself has never actually owned or restored a tractor, he was always enthusiastic and always around helping with other peoples projects.
