you use the shields when the corn is small so you can throw dirt between the hills then when the corn gets a little higher hit it again throwing more dirt . We used to harrow the corn just before it came up and sometimes even when it was up just as long as the harrow didnt hurt the corn then late a rotary hoe and sometimes another trip with the hoe followed by the cult with shields just staying ahead of the weeds all the time if they get ahead of the corn you have lost the battle but now with spray no need to do anything after planting the spray will not ever even have any weeds they just dont grow. You can make any money growing weeds they cut the yeilds terrible
