Yes, I've got a 37 loader, too. The boom cylinders are single acting, power up/gravity down. Like I said, the joystick works great on mine. It has a float position on the boom down circuit, allowing the bucket to follow contours when back dragging. I replaced the twin stick/2 spool stock valve with the joystick. Plan on a hydraulic fluid/filter change if you upgrade, it could be a source of your slow hydraulics.
