If you intend to push its limits, triangulation and reinforcement is a good idea. If the two are similar, I would take careful note of the repairs and how well they have worked, then put effort into making structural improvements that will create a more robust tool. I would resist a patch like job, and carefully make cardboard templates and flame (or plasma) cut the components, duplicates for symmetry side to side. then use best practices in welding. skip welding and pic hammering hot welds, cleaning and wire brushing then filling the skips to avoid heat stress buildup.
