It all depends if your M is still original 6 volt and positive ground the coil should be wired with the positive primary ..small terminal.. connected to the wire to the distributor. Same applies to the Super C. If a machine has been converted to 12 volts and usually an alternator installed they are usually converted to negative ground so the coil polarity is reversed and the negative terminal of the coil connects to the distributor.
It is my understanding that a reverse polarity or incorrect connection to the coil has no harmful affects on the coil and the machine will run fine. The improper connection only makes the coil work less efficiently. All that said it seems that the coil that was on the Super C must be failing. The only way to double check would be to put it back on and see if the problem comes back.
