When I was going to school in Tulsa after my hitch in the service (1971) I worked at a Budget rent a car and we had Gremlins and Pinto's for our economy car, I can't count how many times I had to take a Pinto with a auto on the floor out to swap with a Gremlin with a 3 speed on the floor to exchange because the linkage bound up because the driver didn't shift it properly. I would do the exchange then crawl under the car and free up the linkage and drive it away. It would be rented out the next day and wait for someone else that couldn't shift a stick to bind it up again and we could repeat the process. It might take a month so, but it would occur again. My mom had one for years and never had a problem, she loved that car!
