FWIW, on the organic gardening side (I'm "semi" myself as I will occassionally use limited chemicals, etc) lawn grass clippings from unknown sources -- i.e. picking them up from the town dump or having a landscaper drop them off has been known to have this same impact on gardens from residual chemicals that people applied to their lawns.
