This seems to be a problem that is becoming more frequent. Personally I don't think it should be blamed on the engine. Something has gotten into the oil (which may be from the engine) or something in the formulation of the oil is causing it to jell. A few years ago a friend of mine restored a Model R Case and of course put new oil in the crankcase. He took it to a few shows that summer without any problem and put it away for the winter. The next spring when he started it up he noticed that there was not any oil pressure and shut it down. When he checked the oil he found out just that- it had turned to jelly. As I recall it was a name brand oil he had used. Since he had rebuilt the engine it may have been caused by some other residue left from cleaning when he rebuilt or it is the oil.
