The Hoyte-Clagwell (notice the correct spelling)Manufacturing Company did indeed produce tractors!
However,they were destined for bigger things. After constructing a prototype locomotive in 1937 they found no market for their advanced tractors and locomotive designs. They went on to produce tractors in quantity on the collectives of Soviet
Uzbekistan. Emigrants from this area ended up in the television business in the 1950s. Their familiarity with the Hoyte-Clagwells endeared them to the name.
