This has ben discussed and disputed over and over on here. Check the archives for many posts on the subject.
There is no difference in the performance or reliability of the tractor with either positive or negative ground. Neither way is any better or worse than the other.
The starter will work just fine with either way. It will turn the same direction, with the same power, at the same speed.
