One of the greatest mistakes I have seen people make in off-road equipment is use synthetic oils and try to lenghen the drain interval. While it is true that these oils last longer and IF you use their "better" filters you will remove more contaminants you still have equipment with a fairly small crankcase to collect a lot of dirt. Example: I overhauled 2 tractors for a gentleman about 4 years ago. One used by him (with synthetic changed 1x per year) and one by his son changed 2x with regular engine oil. They put about 300 hrs pr year on each. Rebuilt the one with synthetics for him this winter (again) and the crank was destroyed, too much dirt in the bottem half of the engine. They may be fine in on-road engines, for me, they aren't worth the cost.
