I have a 231 and a 1240. Both are giving me great service. I bought them about four years ago. I use the 231 mostly for mowing with a 6 ft. Bushog rotary mower and heavier jobs. There are only a couple of things that I don't like about it. The seat was was not adjustable and too low for me so I raised it with wooden spacer blocks. The brake pedals are pushed straight down which is difficult and uncomfortable. If they were located out in front so that you pushed away, it would be better. Finally, I fabricated a metal step and attached it to the left side foot rest board so that I didn't have to step up so high to mount the tractor. All in all, I like my 231 and it has given no trouble and no repairs have been needed yet. I have the big and wide rear fenders which make wonderful arm rests.
The 1240 I really bought for my wife to mow with and have a 5 ft. Bushog finish on it nearly year round. We have about 35 acres that we keep mowed during the warm months. About 3 acres we call the yard and she uses the finish mower on this. The 1240 is really a neat little tractor and almost designed for a woman. Convenience and comfort. MF was thinking about the ladies, I suspect.
