It could be the shift rails are worn or wear on a fork or a broken fork the only real way to tell is to take off the top cover and have a look Some transmissions can be caught between gears if the shifter is moved suddenly from say reverse to first this is most common on MF and older tractors. You really should have a manual for that I can get most any manual used at good prices let me know if you need one.
