Detroit is buying more engines from outside sources than they build, refer to the Navistar DT-466, also Caterpillars are bought, painted gray and sold as Detroit/Penske. The 60 series is not a Detroit Design either. As stated the reasons the 2-cycle died was because they could not meet emission standards. However, you can still buy reman DD's on up to the 149 series.
