Brand new two stroke DD's are still being made today in Brazil for markets outside of Canada/US. The 6v-53 is being refitted with electronics,turbo & after cooling with 300 and more HP for military transport applications.
The flat torque curve across the entire rpm range gives the feeling of "no power" to operators used to four strokes. The typical fourstroke has higher volumetric efficiency at approx 2/3 of max HP rpm. As the rpm drop so does HP but the torque increases. So while less "work/HP" is being done by the fourstroke it feels more powerful because less shifting is required.
