odd things in the corn field

I was out mowing corn stubble today, preparing a ten acre field to be disc'ed and planted with orchard grass. I was quite puzzled to find three large flat rocks laying in the field which were painted dull red and two large holes. At first I thought the one might be a ground hog hole, but when I got closer, it was about a foot in diameter and about two feet deep, just a round pit., but enough to break a horses' leg.
Last year, I walked through the standing corn and found an area about fifteen feet square with no corn growing and a square piece of plastic laid out as flat as can be. I thought maybe the neighbor kids were playing "fort" or something. These rocks and the holes are a new concern. Guess I'm going to keep a closer eye on things this year. The holes and rocks definitely weren't there last fall during deer season.
