The idea of using a chain drive seems reasonable, it would take care of the speed problem. still go for the transporter rear end, it will geve you that much more reduction. Change the oil in any reductuon gears you get too, nobody does that. And by old transporters I mean the original ones, the ones that never got over 55 mph and were down to 40 on hills. The reason they didn't have any top end was the reduction gears on the end of the axles, however with 40 hp (some more some less) they needed that extra reduction. Good luck with the project, let us know how it goes if you decide to do it. It sounds interesting, you might be better off in time (and maybe even money if you can't do almost everything yourself) if you just went out and bought a tractor. Allis G or Farmall cub/cub lowboy.
