Here in Minnesota you would be charged to get them re-established if 'they' found out you killed them. Can be fines as well. Both the natural and 'your' pond would be considered wetlands and up to the state to run as _they_ see fit.

Be sure you aren't getting yourself into trouble legally where you live.
