Mike, I thought of the same thing. There is only about 1 inch of wire beyond the tie-down that is connected to the hood brace(rod) The wire will not reach or touch anything. I did twist another wire on it and and ran it to the engine block to test the ground theory, but that did not work. It looks as though there is another half of the wire missing. Very strange that the first problem that I have with this mower after 12 years is a problem like this one. Thanks for the input,
