These were the first generation tractors (after the 2 cylinders), and the diesel versions of this tractor had problems. As far as the gated shifter, it is not a problem as long as everything is kept adjust properly. We had a diesel 2010, and it had problems with the engine. But, we feel if it had been a gas, we may have kept it longer. The shifter setup was used on later models than the 2010. My 3020 has the gated shifter, and although it may not be the best design shifter, it is ok.
