Most oil companies still sell a "pour grease,"liquid grease" . It might work in a really old sliding gear transmission,but I would be afraid to use it in any kind of a constant mesh trans. A constant mesh trans has all the gears spinning loose on the mainshaft(execpt for the gear your in) and the fit between shaft and gear is very tight. liquid grease may not flow into the tight fit between gears and shaft,causing them to heat up and seize. My own bad experience was using a manual trans designed for very light oil(ATF). I tried to improve it by filling it with 140 gear oil. I got about 1-1/2 miles before the trans seized up. A very expensive lesson. :(
