pickup fuel probblem help

Hi I have a 87 Chevy pickup that just left me stranded I don’t really now what is wrong with it but just before it quit on me it started to run really ruff with now power (like flooding out) then I gave it sum gas and put it in neutral then it cleared up and drove ok for a few seconds then started all over again and I have two fuel tanks full wile all this whose going on I switched tanks and that didn’t help then it finely quit on me and wont start where do I start to trouble shoot this I’m pretty shire its not the gas or fuel pumps what else could it be thanks for all help?
