I have a 42 pto HP tractor with 13.6x28 radial tires, but no weight. I've had it a long time, and i'd say from expierence, it's UNder rated a bit at 42hp.
There's NO way it would ever pull 3-14's let alone 4?? in my ground, and the guy above has clay!!!! It may pull 3-14's in sand ????, but not in any ground heavier than that! I like to plow at least 10" deep, not just turn the top 4 or 5 inches over!
I'd say for most conditions the average 40hp tractor is a 2 plow tractor at best. That's a 2-16 moulboard plough.
Remember, every inch those rear tires are spinning, they are creating "deep compaction" in your soil, and that's bad news!!!
This is why i no longer plough, and i rotavate all my ground!! It took me several years to straighten out the mess all that ploughing and discing did over the years!!
I have a lot of customers that pay me to rotavate when they own a plough and disc of their own!
