Field Marsall tractor

I attended the Antique Machinery and Thresher Show at Waverly, Nebraska recently. Saw this nice lady polishing a '48 Field Marshall tractor, diesel. Since it had a fly wheel like my '29 JD/D I asked if it was hand start. No it is a 12 ga. shotgun shell start!!!!! She explained that. Put a treated paper into the cylinder and light it off. Put a bland 12 ga. shell in a lock. Take the ashes out of the cylinder and close it. Hit the firing pin with a hammer.............it runs.

I think I'll carry my 12 ga. shotgun (loaded) down and have a discussion with my John Deere D.

Tell me about these tractors. Her's was for sale at $10,000. Didn't seem to me out of line.
