I don't know if it has anything to do with your problem, but I once had a problem with a cub cadet 782 where the coil got cooked (some dummy left the ignition switch on while charging the battery). It would crank, but not start (of course) until you released the key, then it blew the fuse and would not crank again. If your coil is starting to break down under heat, you might have a similar situation. How well does it run when it's hot?
