I have a 1973 Ford 3000 (gas) with the same clutch and transmission as your 3600. I used my Ford 501 mower on it this summer and it was almost impossible to change gears with the PTO engaged. I'm going to try an ORC the next time I hook up the mower to see if it relieves enough strain on the transmission to allow changing gears. Also, the 6th gear is almost worthless unless you are starting out headed downhill. Of course that problem may be more noticeable on my tractor due to the weight of the loader. Hopefully, you will have more torque for starting in 6th gear with a diesel and it will meet your needs. The live hydraulics and power steering are definite improvements over many of the older tractors.
