That's a long way from being first! In 1892 John Froehlich built the first gasoline tractor that propelled itself backward as well as forward.
Later that year (1892) Mr. Froehlich joined with others in organizing the Waterlo Gasoline traction engine company which later became the John Deere tractor company in 1918

Third Brush Generators - by Chris Pratt. While I love straightening sheet metal, cleaning, and painting old tractors, I use every excuse to avoid working on the on the electrics.
