You've got two advantages with 220V. First, since the voltage is doubled, the current is half. This means you can use a smaller wire or get less voltage drop with the same wire. And since the overall voltage is higher, the voltage drop has less effect. In other words, you are using more electric power to run the motor and less to heat the wires. The other advantage is that when the motor starts, the startup current will be less and you won't get as much of that annoying dimming of the lights. The big disadvantage is that it's a heck of a lot easier to find a 110 ourlet than a 220, so the 110 is more portable. That's the reason I got a 110, but I can convert it to 220 later by rewiring it. That is real common, and the motor is advertised as a 110/220 motor.
