There are a couple of considerations to be addressed here...the most important one is the volume in cubic feet per minute that the compressor can supply at a given pressure....this is determined by the size of the compressor's head....and the horsepower it's driven with...generally speaking you'll probably have trouble getting any higher than 1 horsepower to run from a 110 volt line since most 110 volt lines are fused at 15 amperes....this is fine to run a 1 hp mortor...but the current required at startup can be too high..(it depends on the design of the motor)...also...you need to know what the requiremens are of the spray gun you're going to use..that would be key in your selection of a compressor....lastly...don't forget to use a good line dryer on the output of the compressor...the tanks get a lot of condensation in them and the paint won't like it.
